The Case of the Lethargic Lhasa....

 

 

History

Female spayed 7 year old Lhasa apso.  Mostly a “lap dog”.  Recently switched from normal adult maintenance dog food to senior maintenance.  Over last couple of months, owner noticed decreased appetite and energy as well as occasional vomiting and soft stools.  Owner thinks dog has lost a little weight.  Recent travel to northern California for 2 months – not on heartworm preventive.

 

PE

Normal appearance.  Some discomfort on abdominal palpation.

Within Normal Limits--Adrenals not visualized. Normal intestinal thickness. No evidence of pyelonephritis. Negative No growth after 3 days. Pre = 5.26,  Post -3.93   Interpretation:  Poor response to ACTH vs. recent history of steroid use.
